In 2002, Communities In Schools of Marietta/Cobb County (CISMCC) began serving students in Title 1 high schools within the Marietta City Schools and Cobb County School District. In 2018, CISMCC became a subsidiary affiliate with Communities In Schools of Georgia, operating under their 501(c)(3) status while maintaining its shared mission and vision- helping kids stay in school and achieve in life.

Communities In Schools of Georgia in Marietta/Cobb County (CISMCC) believes the path to graduation begins in kindergarten. Key milestones such as kindergarten readiness, 3rd-grade reading proficiency, and 8th-grade math mastery significantly impact a student’s success and decisions as they progress to high school. Over the years, CISMCC has expanded services to middle and elementary schools within two of the five high school feeder patterns it serves, strengthening its support for families and communities.

Today, CIS in Marietta/Cobb serves 27,000 K-12 students annually. Of these, 20,000 receive comprehensive wraparound services through the Site Coordinator Program, which addresses academic, attendance, and behavioral challenges. The General Youth Services Model extends CIS support to 7,000 additional students, providing resources, collaborative programs, and financial literacy education.

CIS programs, including the Reality U Financial Literacy initiative, have grown significantly, increasing participation from 1,200 to 7,500 students annually. This program equips students with essential financial planning skills, preparing them for real-world responsibilities. By focusing on academics, attendance, and behavior, CIS provides targeted support to identify challenges, develop action plans, and measure progress.

Despite challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, CIS met its pre-pandemic goals and continued to expand its impact. CISMCC’s commitment to students and families ensures that barriers to education are addressed, allowing students to achieve success both in and out of the classroom. CIS builds brighter futures and stronger communities by empowering students, one at a time.
